Exploring Our Shared Place with Nature Through Music and Storytelling
Through music, conversation, and storytelling, explore the significance of place and nature within your life and the community.
A year-long series, From Roots to Wings explores themes of community identity, music, and nature, offering a space for reflection though music, arts, environmental education, mental health activities, and conversation. The culminating musical commission will draw on the shared experiences and stories of community members, creating a musical reflection on our shared space within nature here in Minnesota.
From Roots to Wings acknowledges the emotional toll the climate change can take on individuals. By providing an artistic and community-centered outlet for these emotions, this project provides space to celebrate nature and explore its fragility, building belonging in our changing world.
Our Story
When Aileen moved to the Kingfield neighborhood in Southwest Minneapolis in 2024, she quickly discovered a supportive community rooted in care. A place where people show up for each other and share a commitment to protect the natural world they are a part of. That spirit became the foundation of a long-held vision, From Roots to Wings.
At the heart of the project is a special collaboration with Libby Larsen, a Minnesota-based composer whose music feels alive and human, capturing her sense of place and unique musical voice. Inspired by the stories and experience our community shares at these events throughout the year, Larsen's new musical commission will be shaped by the
voices of our community.
From Roots to Wings is a living, evolving collaboration between artists, neighbors, and nature, and you are invited to be part of it. Please join us for an upcoming concert.
